A trip to Neath this month to photograph this large secondary school for Powell Dobson Architects.

A couple of trips over the past couple of weeks to photograph this stunning training centre designed by Powell Dobson Architects.

Mulberry Park, Bath

A trip to Bath on a beautifully crisp spring day to photograph the Mulberry Park development for Powell Dobson Architects.

Pencoedtre School

Some more excellent architecture work this month with a visit to Pencoedtre High School in Barry for HLM Architects. How schools have changed since I was a teenager!

Dog's Trust, Cardiff

Another impressive piece of architecture by Powell Dobson Architects this week as I photographed the new Dog's Trust facility in central Cardiff. Set on a large 8 acre site comprising 4 buildings, everything at the centre has been designed with dogs in mind, with 74 kennels, 20 exercise paddocks and a specially landscaped area for practising lead walking.

Bridgend College

I had the privilege of photographing the new STEAM Academy at Bridgend College last week. An excellent piece of architecture which will be a great enhancement to this fabulous college.

St Mary de Crypt, Gloucester

A trip to St Mary de Crypt church in Gloucester in beautiful June sunshine to photograph the refurbishment of and upgrades to the 14th century church and tudor schoolrooms by Purcell architects.

A great little shoot for Foresso of their fantastic product installed at DESG in Pontcanna, Cardiff.

Techniquest, Cardiff Bay

A local architecture shoot for HLM Architects photographing the recently completed extension to Techniquest, the UK's longest established science centre. The new extension provides approx. 1000m2 of additional exhibition space and will highlight new research and developments across the STEM sectors.

UWE Physical Making Hub

Navigating ongoing Covid restrictions in both England and Wales, I managed a visit to Bristol to photograph the new Physical Making Hub at University of West England for Austin Smith:Lord. A near deserted campus as almost all teaching is being done online at universities in the current pandemic. The client was keen to show the 'clutter' of the creative spaces to convey that the space was occupied.

Llys Cadwyn Development

After a period of lockdown, it's been good to get back to shooting on location again while working out new ways of working safely in the midst of a global pandemic. This shoot for Darnton B3 architects of the Llys Cadwyn redevelopment in Pontypridd, a mixed-use scheme comprising of offices, community facilities and cafe restaurant space. It's a major element in the regeneration of Pontypridd's town centre at a site that had been derelict for many years.

God's House Tower

A visit to Southampton on a crisp winter morning to photography God's House Tower for Purcell. God's House Tower is a new public arts and heritage venue used by the local community in Southampton. The Grade 1 listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument has had a contemporary extension added, creating capacious exhibition space and accessible visitor facilities.

King's Bruton School

Autumn is well on it’s way and this shoot at one of England’s oldest schools took advantage of a particularly beautiful autumnal morning. Commissioned by Levitt Bernstein Architects, the shoot focused on the exteriors of the new music school building, designed to provide modern, state of the art music facilities for the school but also to blend in with the other school buildings some dating back to the 16th century.

Kresen Kurnow visit 2

A second visit to Kresen Kurnow in Redruth, Cornwall for Purcell UK, this time to photograph it after the internal exhibition fit-out had been completed and to cover externals that weren’t able to be captured on the first visit.

Kresen Kurnow, Redruth

Lots of travelling at the moment, this time down to Redruth in Cornwall to photograph another piece of stunning conservation architecture by Purcell Architects. They have transformed a derelict brewery into an archive and local studies centre for Cornwall. Drawing together three Cornish archive and library organisations, the centre will house the largest collection in existence of information for studying Cornwall’s people, places, history and culture, dating from 1150.

Pentre Nicklaus

I had the pleasure of photographing this stunning property for Powell Dobson Architects in a beautiful location on the edge of the Loughor Estuary. The brief asked for the link between the exterior and interior to be showcased in particular. The property was shortlisted for a RICS award.

Eastern High School, Cardiff

Enjoyable day photographing this fantastically light and airy new school and enjoying the banter with the schoolchildren!

Effective and bold use of cladding at the Tiny Rebel Brewing Company near Newport for a worldwide cladding manufacturer.

Gower College

I had the pleasure of returning to Gower College where I studied in my teenage years (many years ago!!) to photograph the new reception building at the college after a fire at the site in 2016. Totally unrecognisable from my time as a student there!

Coleg Y Cymoedd

It was a pleasure photographing the great airy spaces in this new higher education college recently completed by Austin Smith Lord which seemed to be equally enjoyed by the students.

Clifton Cathedral

This was an enjoyable commission once again for Purcell UK to document the latest stage of works in the refurbishment of Clifton Cathedral, a fascinating piece of architecture produced in the 1970’s.

St Fagans National Museum of History

I had the pleasure of photographing the completed refurbishment of this well loved museum on the outskirts of Cardiff over the summer for Purcell UK Architects. The redevelopment of this Grade II listed museum building designed by Percy Thomas Partnership in 1975 is the latest stage of an extensive programme to transform the National Museum of Wales. The £30 million Making History project was awarded £11.5 million by the Heritage Lottery fund in 2012, Wales biggest ever HLF grant.

Compton Verney, Warwickshire

Another architectural highlight photographed in early autumn for Purcell UK. Here there was a combination of a new visitor centre and conservation and restoration work of the chapel.

Ysgol Bro Dinefwr

It’s been a busy year for architectural photography with an interesting range of projects that I’ve visited for a number of great architecture practices. This shoot made an impression with the vibrant atmosphere in the new school of particular note.

Bistrot Pierre, Birmingham

It was good to be involved in the launch of Bistrot Pierre’s latest restaurant in Birmingham earlier this year. Situated in a Grade II listed building on the city’s bustling canalside, the bistrot is located in Gas Street, close to The Mailbox, Birmingham’s most stylish shopping destination.

A multiple visit commission by the architects to photograph the regeneration of this historic castle in rural Wales. The brief required documenting the various stages of completion through 2015 and highlighting the holiday accommodation, small business workspace, conference facilities and restaurant built into the conserved fabric of the Castle.

Brockhampton Court
